Mortar Pointing
Often referred to as tuck pointing, re-pointing of mortar joints is a important step in maintaining masonry.  This type of maintenance is crucial for maintaining integrity over time.  It is very important that the re-pointing of any type masonry be done with caution.  If the mortar being used is not correctly matched in strength by using the correct ratio's of lime, portland and sand, it will cause extreme damage to the object over a very short period of time.  Most brick layers fail to understand this.

Caulking
Caulking keeps the water out of places it shouldn't be.  Its vital for all masonry and concrete to be free of trapped water.  Once water gets in or under masonry or concrete, it almost never evaporates and will eventually freeze during the winter months and cause breakage.  "it never fails".

Control Joint System
Control joints were incorporated in brick and block commercial construction in the 60's and 70's and is widely used today.  However,  in 95% of today's residential construction, the builders are failing to use them and its showing.
